A Maryland woman has been handed a 25-year prison sentence following allegations of colluding with her boyfriend and twin sister to execute her brother in 2017.
Leaundra Matthews, as per ABC 7, received her sentencing on Monday subsequent to the strangulation death of her 17-year-old brother, Christian Matthews, while he slept in 2017. Fox 5 further details that Leaundra’s boyfriend, Tysean Lipford, purportedly executed the act of strangulation while Daniel Howard, another individual, allegedly assisted in restraining the victim.
Text exchanges between Leaundra and Lipford, as reported by Fox 5, purportedly implicated her in her brother’s demise. Additionally, she purportedly confessed her involvement in the murder to her mother and aunt. Leaundra was convicted of second-degree murder in August, as outlined by WUSA 9.
Court authorities, according to ABC 7, indicate that Leaundra’s sister, Lemae Matthews, entered a guilty plea to accessory after the fact to murder in October 2021. Her sentencing is yet to be determined.
Allegedly, Leaundra, who shares a child with Lipford and was pregnant with another child at the time of the incident, informed Lipford that Christian posed a threat to her and their offspring, hence, necessitating his removal, as per Fox 5, citing legal documents.
Lipford faced arrest and charges of first-degree murder in 2017. Subsequently, in 2019, he was convicted of second-degree murder and handed a 30-year sentence.
As per a 2017 statement from the Montgomery County Police Department, law enforcement responded to a disturbance call at the Matthews’ residence on March 21, 2017, at 2:25 am, leading to the discovery of Christian unresponsive in his basement bedroom. He was later pronounced deceased after being transported to a nearby hospital. Suspicious marks were found on his neck.
“After four years of intense investigative work, probable cause was developed to charge the Matthews sisters, and Daniel Juwan Howard with first-degree murder,” read the Montgomery County Police Department’s statement at the time.
Howard’s trial is slated for April 2024, according to Fox 5. Lemae’s sentencing will follow the conclusion of Howard’s trial.
